Sagittarius is an ultra light, single stage, lift and return vehicle. Return is important to testing space systems and materials.
The logical conclusion of the ultra light concept -- the smallest possible craft on the smallest possible budgets -- is ultra light fabrication materials and techniques. A lift and return capability implies extreme precision. Reproducibility and economy recommend an automated fabrication process. The result is an R&D project into tools and techniques to combine Carbon, Silicon, Aluminum and Copper into composites to form parts, components and systems with very high precision. The preliminary configuration for Sagittarius is a blended wing with atmospheric solar-electric propeller, and LH2/LO2 rocket space propulsion. Status
Current work focuses on Fabrication for inputs to Design.
